All memory cards are classified as Non-Volatile Memory (NVM, meaning no power is required to maintain stored data) and Solid-State Drive memory (SSD, meaning that there are no moving parts.)

Some memory cards utilize Flash technology (the same technology used in USB flash drives) and some use a variety of "other" technologies commonly grouped together and referred to as RAM-drive. These various technologies have unique applications, speed, and cost advantages.
